The 14.1-megapixel high-resolution DMC-FX70 packages an f/2.2 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON lens with 24mm wide-angle and 5x optical zoom to a slim and compact body. The f/2.2 lens lets the camera shoot at higher shutter speed and capture clear, sharp, blur-free images in lower lighting situation. Together with the anti-blurring function in the iA Mode, the DMC-FX70 never allows any subject to be blurred. The 24mm wide-angle lens captures larger viewing space compared to that normal 35mm lens does.
The DMC-FX70 can record HD movie in AVCHD Lite with high sound quality of Dolby Digital Creator. Motion JPEG format is also available (1,280 x 720 pixels). Just press the Motion Picture Button, and shooting begins. The iA Mode can also be activated in motion picture recording. When the DMC-FX70 is connected to a Panasonic VIERA via an optional mini HDMI cable, the TV's remote control unit can be used to enjoy playing back with greater convenience.
The iA Mode is advanced with the Motion Deblur Mode by updating the Intelligent ISO Control and Intelligent Exposure to gain shutter speed. Combined with the POWER O.I.S., the DMC-FX70 prevents any kind of blur - whether caused by handshake or the subject’s motion. The POWER O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection AF/AE, Face Recognition, Intelligent Scene Selector, Intelligent Exposure and AF Tracking, the camera does all the work in the iA Mode. The Happy Mode optimizes color saturation and brightness for vividly memorable scenes.
With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas - outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas - are automatically detected. Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, this technology precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way according to the area. As a result, images are clear and crisp in both photos and movies. The Intelligent Zoom extends the zoom ratio by approx. 1.3x maintaining the image quality even combining a digital zoom. A 5x optical can virtually extend to 6.5x equivalent.
The DMC-FX70 features a touch-screen operation with the 3.0-inch LCD. While shooting, auto focus can be set at the desired part of the frame with just a touch. You can also operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time. While playing back, you can quickly select an image to view by scrolling images. The Cosmetic Mode allows you to take portraits with different impression of skin; favored skin color (soft skin, natural skin, summer look) and degree of transparency of skin detail (low, standard, high).
